Apple Butter Bars

Apple Butter Bars

Ingredients:

¾ cup  margarina
¾ cup  brown sugar
1 cup  whole-wheat flour
¼ cup  wheat germ
1 ½ cups  rolled oats
1 teaspoon  cinnamon
½ teaspoon  nutmeg
¼ teaspoon  salt
¾ cup  apple butter
½ cup  raisins

In a medium bowl, cream margarine and brown sugar.  In a second bowl, stir together flour, wheat germ, rolled oats, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.  Add to creamed mixture and stir just to combine.

In a greased 9- by 9-inch pan, spread the batter. 

Cover with a layer of apple butter and sprinkle with raisins. 

Top with remaining batter. 

Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes. 

Cut into 12 bars.

This recipe yields 12 bars.

Variations:  Substitute peach or pear butter.
